In recent years, as 3E large container ships are put into use, wharf customers have increasing demands for large-scale quay cranes. For these customers, heightened quay cranes are capable of loading and unloading super-large ships, have obvious economic benefits because companies do not have to buy large quay cranes, and can greatly enhance wharf’s competitiveness.

This project involved 4 quay cranes. At present, ZPMC had successfully heightened two of them. The entire heightening process was safe, stable and orderly with controllable risks, which was acknowledged and praised by wharf customers. After successfully heightening the first quay crane, ZPMC improved operational plans and crafts by changing the former welding bracket into bolted connection and cancelling the internal strengthening of pedestals and beams, which greatly saved construction time. Compared with heightening the first quay crane, heightening the second one saved nearly half of the construction time, thus enhancing operation efficiency and reducing cost.

The success of this project not only improved ZPMC’s reputation in quay crane heightening service, but also helped ZPMC to occupy the first chance of quay crane heightening market in USA.
